Goon Box

Red Wine on Paper
42 x 31 cm

A self-referential work, the use of red wine with which to paint refers directly to the image/text. Box wine, a patented Australian invention, is referred to as “Goon”.

Having broken down this widely used slang word it revealed GO ON, which has been presented as part of a simple box-like design using red wine on paper.

These words “Go on!” take me back to early experiences with alcohol and peer pressure. An interesting example of which is “Goon of Fortune” a game that involves a Hills Hoist clothesline to which the bladder from a Goon box is pegged. Participants stand under the clothesline and drink as it spins round to them.
